Without a doubt, the Colorado Trail Friends Yurt offers superb long distance views of the San Juan Mountains.
The Colorado Trail Friends Yurt may be accessed from any of three routes in winter. Two of the routes begin at Rambouillet park and are both 5 miles long, with 1000 feet of elevation gain. The Camp Trail route is about 5.5 miles long, with a steep ascent from the valley floor, up 2,500 feet to the yurt. Summer users are frequently Continental Divide Trail or Colorado Trail hikers.
The Colorado Trail Friends yurt is rated as an intermediate to advanced ski trip. Avalanche terrain is minimal on these routes although extra care should be taken in periods of high avalanche conditions. This yurt sleeps up to 8 people. Guide and sherpa services are available.
The Colorado Trail Friends Yurt was built with donations from The Colorado Trail Foundation and became functional 1995. The Hinsdale Haute Route began with this site in 1991.Book me
